Who it's for
Contractors who want to capture homeowners who are searching right now.
The math behind paid search
Paid search is simple arithmetic. You pay for a click or a lead. Some of those become calls. Some calls become estimates. Some estimates become jobs. If a job is worth more than everything you paid to get it, ads work. If not, they do not.
That is why we start with your numbers, not ours. What is an average job worth? How many calls do you book into estimates? How many estimates close? A roofer selling full replacements can afford to pay much more per lead than a company selling small repairs. Knowing your numbers sets how much you can spend and still come out ahead.
Our PPC work is built around that math. We manage Google Ads and Local Services Ads, track what happens after the click, and tell you what is worth keeping.
Here is a plain example. Say a roofer in a mid-size market books a certain share of calls into estimates, and closes a share of those. Multiply it out and you get a rough cost you can pay per call and still profit. If ads are producing calls above that number, we adjust. If they are producing calls below it, we look for room to spend more. The numbers belong to you, so we ask for them and keep them in view.
Search intent: who you actually want to pay for
In paid search, you choose which searches trigger your ad. Every click costs money, so the quality of those searches decides everything.
Searches worth buying
High-intent searches come from someone ready to hire. Think roof replacement near me, emergency AC repair, or pool builder in your city. These people have a problem and a budget. We build campaigns around them.
Searches worth blocking
Other searches look similar but waste money: people looking for jobs, DIY instructions, free quotes, or services you do not offer. We add negative keywords to block them, and we review the search terms Google actually matched so we can block more each month.
Google Ads and Local Services Ads
Contractors usually have two paid options on Google. Google Ads charge per click and give you control over keywords, ad text, and landing pages. Local Services Ads charge per lead and show the Google Guaranteed badge at the very top of results, in trades where Google offers them.
Many contractors use both. The two work differently, and we explain which fits your trade and market. Our Local Services Ads setup page covers that option, and our Google Ads management page covers search campaigns.
Budget and fees
Google Ads management is $650 per month plus a $499 setup. Your ad spend is separate and paid directly to Google. For most home service contractors, we recommend a minimum ad spend of $1,500 to $3,000 per month on top of our fee. In low-volume markets we may suggest less.
Ads management has a 3-month minimum so Google's system has enough data to improve. Local Services Ads management is $120 per month with a $240 setup. Everything else is month to month. See the pricing page for the full list.
Landing pages and tracking
A click is only the start. Each campaign gets its own landing page, built to match the search that triggered it, with the phone number, the form, and the proof where people can see them. We build these as part of the ads work, and our landing page design service shows what goes into them.
Tracking ties it together. We track calls and form fills back to the campaign and keyword that produced them, so you can see which spending creates work. For more on how that reporting works, see call tracking and lead reporting. Each month we make three optimization adjustments based on what the data shows.
Mistakes that burn ad budgets
The same few errors show up in contractor accounts we inherit.
- Sending every ad to the homepage instead of a page built for the search.
- Broad keywords with no negative list, so budget goes to the wrong searches.
- Judging campaigns by clicks instead of booked jobs.
- Setting a budget too small for Google to learn from.
- Turning ads off after a few weeks because results looked slow.
Who it fits and what to expect
Paid search fits contractors doing $300K or more a year who want to capture homeowners searching right now, and who have the capacity to handle the calls. It also fits well alongside organic work, since ads fill the gap while SEO/AEO builds.
It is a poor fit if your phones are already full, or if you cannot pay for the minimum spend that gives the campaign a fair test. Early months are about learning. Expect adjustments, not a finished machine, and expect us to tell you honestly what the numbers say.
A typical first quarter goes like this. We build the campaigns and landing pages and set up tracking. In the first weeks, Google is still learning, so costs can swing. By the second month we have real search term data and start cutting waste. By the third we have a clear read on what a lead costs in your market, and we can talk honestly about whether to spend more, hold steady, or change course.
That is also why the 3-month minimum exists. Stopping a campaign in week three tells you almost nothing. We would rather give it a fair test and then decide with real numbers.
