How the map pack decides who shows up

Local SEO for trades is about winning the three businesses Google shows on a map when someone searches for a contractor near them. That group is called the map pack. For many home service searches, it is where the calls come from.

Google says it picks local results using three things: relevance, distance, and prominence. Relevance is how well your profile matches the search. Distance is how far you are from the searcher, or from the area they named. Prominence is how well known and trusted you are, based on reviews, links, and mentions around the web. You cannot change distance. You can improve the other two, and that is where our work goes.

AI tools draw on much of the same information, so the work also helps you get named in answers. That is why we call it local SEO/AEO.

Service-area logic: you go to them

A plumber or a roofer is not a shop customers walk into. You drive to the job. That changes how local SEO works for a trade.

Many contractors hide their address and list a service area instead. The area you list should match where you actually work, and your website should back it up with a page for each major city. If your profile says you serve five cities and your website only mentions one, Google and AI tools have little reason to show you in the other four.

Distance still plays a part. If a competitor sits right in the middle of a city and you are twenty minutes outside it, they have an edge on searches that name that city. You cannot move your office. What you can do is build stronger reviews, a better profile, and better pages than they have, so prominence makes up for distance. Searches that name a nearby city or neighborhood are often the best place to catch up.

We also look at where you want to work, not just where you work now. A concrete contractor who wants more projects in a nearby wealthy suburb needs proof for that suburb: a page, projects, and reviews that mention it.

What the work covers

For trades, local SEO/AEO has a handful of working parts. We handle them together so they line up. These parts are linked, so doing one and skipping the rest tends to disappoint. A great profile pointing to a thin website sends visitors away. A great website with no reviews gets passed over. Here is what the set includes.

  • Your Google Business Profile, with the right categories, services, and service areas. See our Google Business Profile optimization page for the detail.
  • Service and city pages for the work and places you want to win.
  • Citations, which are listings of your business name, address, and phone number on other sites.
  • Review generation and replies.
  • Consistent business facts that AI tools can read and trust.

Different trades, different map packs

A map pack for AC repair looks nothing like one for decorative concrete. How we approach each depends on how homeowners buy.

Urgent trades

HVAC, plumbing-adjacent work, and storm roofing are often urgent. People call the first company that looks trustworthy. Reviews, a profile that shows hours and phone number clearly, and Local Services Ads matter a lot here. The map pack carries much of the volume.

Project trades

Pools, siding, landscaping, and concrete are research-heavy purchases. Homeowners compare portfolios and read reviews for weeks. Photos, project pages, and a strong website matter as much as the map pack. You can browse trade-specific pages on our industries page.

Why we take one contractor per trade per market

Local SEO is a competition for a small number of spots. If we helped two roofers in the same market, we would be working against ourselves. So we do not.

We partner with 15 contractors in total, and never two in the same trade whose markets overlap. Once you are in, your market is yours. If a competitor in your trade and area reaches us first, we cannot take you, and we will tell you that up front.

Pricing

Local work spans two monthly services. Google Business Profile management is $249 per month with a $199 setup, and it covers categories, weekly posts and photos, review replies, and citations. SEO/AEO + GEO is $1,500 per month with a $499 setup, and it covers the pages, links, and AI work.

Reputation management is $199 per month with a $299 setup. Most contractors start with the pieces that fit their gaps. The pricing page lists everything.

Who it fits and what to expect

This fits roofers, siding and gutter companies, excavators, HVAC, concrete, pool, and landscaping contractors doing $300K or more a year. It does not fit businesses that sell nationally or online, or ones with no service area.

Map pack gains take time. Fixes to your profile and listings can show up first. Rankings tied to reviews and pages build more slowly. How fast depends on your trade, how many competitors you face, and where you start.

You will see the work before you see the results. The first month is usually an audit of your profile, your pages, and your listings, followed by fixes. After that we add pages and reviews steadily. We report on rankings in the map pack, calls from your profile, and leads by source, so you can see movement even when it is small. We do not guarantee a spot in the top three, and we will not tell you to expect one by a certain date.
