Service and location page strategy for contractors
A page for every service and every city you want to rank in.
Service and location page strategy for home service contractors. We plan which pages you need, what each should say, and how they link together, so each service and city can rank on its own.
Growth marketing is for home service contractors doing $300K+ a year. We partner with 15 contractors total, and only one per trade per market.
What's included
- Service demand research for your trade
- A page plan: one page for each service and city worth targeting
- A content brief for each page
- Internal linking between services, locations, and your homepage
Who it's for
Contractors who cover several cities or offer several distinct services.
One page for each service and each city
One page per service and one page per city sounds simple until you count them. A contractor with six services in five cities has up to thirty combinations, and not all of them deserve a page. Our job is deciding which ones do, what each should say, and how they connect.
The reason to do this at all is that searchers look for specific things. Someone who needs a roof replaced does not search for roofing. They search for roof replacement in a city. A page built for that exact search gives Google and AI tools a clear answer. A page that covers everything gives them a vague one.
How we decide which pages to build
We work from demand and from your business, in plain steps.
- List what you actually sell and want more of. Premium work comes first.
- Research how homeowners search for each service, including the words they use.
- Check whether a service returns different results than the general trade. If it does, it can earn its own page.
- List the cities and areas you serve, and rank them by how much work you want there.
- Choose the service pages and city pages worth building now, and the ones to hold for later.
What a good page contains
A good service page opens with a direct statement of what the service is and where you do it. Then it covers who it is for, how the job works, what affects the cost, and what a customer can expect. Add real photos from real jobs and a clear way to call.
A city page is different. It is not the service page with a new city name. It should say something true about working in that place: the kinds of homes, the weather problems, the neighborhoods you have worked in, and projects you have finished there. If you have not done work in a city yet, we will say so and plan the page differently, or skip it.
For each page we write a content brief so the copy, the headings, and the questions answered are clear before anything is published. Pages like these also help with AI answers, because they give tools a clean, specific source to quote.
The thin and duplicate page trap
The cheap way to cover many cities is to copy one page and swap the name. It is tempting, and it does not work well. Search engines see near-identical pages and often ignore most of them. Worse, a pile of weak pages can drag down the good ones.
We avoid that by building fewer pages with more substance. Sometimes that means combining nearby small towns under one area page. Sometimes it means leaving a city out. We would rather build twelve pages that hold up than sixty that do not.
There is a test we use before any city page gets approved. Could a homeowner in that city read the page and learn something they could not learn from the page for the city next door? If the answer is no, the page needs more substance or it should not exist yet.
Internal linking and site structure
Pages need to connect. Your homepage should point to your main services. Each service page should point to the cities where you offer it, and each city page back to its services. Related pages should link to each other in a way that makes sense to a person.
Anchor text matters. A link that says gutter guard installation in your town tells a reader and a search engine what is on the other side. A link that says click here tells them nothing. We write these links by hand as we plan the pages.
This helps visitors find what they want and helps search engines understand how your site fits together. The structure also feeds your navigation and your sitemap. Our sitemap development service covers that side.
How this fits into pricing
If you are building a new site, page counts are part of the package. Authority at $6,400 includes up to 5 individual service pages and up to 3 location pages. Premium at $10,100 includes unlimited service pages and full location page coverage. See web design in Boise for how our builds work.
If your site already exists, this planning and the content behind it is part of our SEO/AEO + GEO service at $1,500 per month with a $499 setup, which includes content for every service and every city you cover. Our SEO optimization work also tunes pages you already have. You can compare options on the pricing page.
Who it fits and what to expect
This fits contractors who cover several cities or offer several distinct services, and who do $300K or more a year. If you only serve one city and offer one service, you need a simpler site, and we will say so.
Pages take time to be found. New pages are indexed first, then earn rankings as they gain links, reviews, and internal support. Timing varies by trade and market. Plan on building in waves instead of all at once, and expect the plan to change as the data comes in. A first wave might be your two or three highest-value services in your home city. A second wave adds nearby cities. A third fills in the long tail of smaller services once the first pages show what works. See also how this fits our wider local SEO for trades work.
