SEO for contractors
Rank where homeowners look first.
SEO is search engine optimization: the technical, content, and link work that moves you up in Google. For contractors it centers on local searches with a service and a city in them.
Growth marketing is for home service contractors doing $300K+ a year. We partner with 15 contractors total, and only one per trade per market.
What's included
- Technical SEO audit and fixes
- Page-by-page optimization
- Backlinks from home services and construction sites
- Local pages for each service and city
What classic SEO covers
SEO is the work of helping Google understand your website and rank it higher for the searches that bring you jobs. For a contractor, those searches usually have a service and a city in them, like "gutter installation Boise" or "HVAC repair near me." The goal is to show up when a homeowner is ready to hire.
It's still the foundation of getting found. AI tools often draw from the same web pages that rank well, so strong SEO helps with SEO/AEO as a whole. That's why we don't treat them as separate worlds.
The three parts of SEO
Most SEO falls into three buckets. A site that's strong in one and weak in another usually stalls.
Technical work
Can Google reach your pages, read them, and load them quickly on a phone? Technical work covers crawling, indexing, redirects, broken links, speed, and schema. If this part is broken, nothing else matters much. The details are in our technical SEO audit and fixes service.
Content and on-page work
Does each page clearly say what you do and where? We plan a page for each service and each city worth targeting, write for what the searcher wants to know, and link related pages together. Tuning pages you already have is covered in SEO optimization.
Authority and links
Google trusts sites that other trusted sites point to. We build backlinks from home services and construction sites, because a link from a relevant source counts for more than a random one.
How we run it
We start with a crawl and an audit to see what's holding the site back. Then we fix technical issues, build or improve service and city pages, tune titles and headings, and start link building. Each month we audit again, make fixes, and look at how rankings and leads are moving.
Local search gets special attention. Many of your best calls come from the map pack, the three businesses Google shows beside a map. Your Google profile, reviews, and pages all feed that. We explain the tie-in on our local SEO for trades page.
You'll also see what's happening. Each month a Sonar Analytics report shows rankings, reviews, and leads in one place, with plain notes on what we'd change next. If a month goes quiet, you'll know why we think so and what we're doing about it. We'd rather show you the numbers than ask for your trust.
How SEO works with AEO
What helps your Google rankings tends to help how AI tools talk about you, and the reverse is true as well. Clear service pages, accurate business facts, good reviews, and schema all pull double duty. So we plan them together instead of paying for the same page twice.
A simple way to see it: SEO helps you rank in a list of links. AEO helps you get named in a single answer. Homeowners use both now, and some use both for the same job. A person might ask an AI tool for names, then search each name on Google to check reviews and photos. If you only show up in one of those two places, you lose them at the other. Our own SEO services in Boise page shows how we describe the full package.
What it costs and how long it takes
SEO runs inside SEO/AEO + GEO, which is $1,500 per month plus a $499 setup, month to month, with a monthly Sonar Analytics report. See the pricing page for the full breakdown.
On timing, we tell people what's on our site: traditional rankings usually show measurable improvement in 3 to 6 months, and organic keyword rankings can start appearing around month 3 to 4. That's a general pattern, not a promise. Markets differ, and a new site starts in a different place than one with years of history.
Who it's for
SEO fits contractors doing $300K or more a year who are ready to own organic search in their market. We only partner with 15 contractors, with one per trade per market. If a competitor in your trade and area is already with us, we can't take you on, and we'd tell you that at the start. In return, when you do join, your market is yours, and we don't build the same strategy for the competitor down the road.
It's a poor fit if you need leads next week. Organic search builds over time. If speed matters, pair it with paid search, which we cover on our PPC page.
Mistakes that stall SEO
Publishing one thin page for every service, hoping it covers everything. Copying the same text across city pages. Ignoring your Google profile because "it's separate from the website." Chasing cheap links from unrelated sites. And stopping after a few months, right when the work starts to pay off.
Another one is judging SEO by website traffic alone. A contractor doesn't need ten thousand visitors. They need the right fifty, the ones who want a quote. That's why we track calls and form leads, not just clicks, and why we aim pages at searches that signal a ready buyer.
Your Google Business Profile deserves real attention too. It's a ranking tool of its own, and it works best when the website and the profile tell the same story. If your profile lists services your website never mentions, or the reverse, both lose a little trust.
