Four channels, one system for home service contractors
AEO, SEO, GEO, and PPC are the four ways a homeowner finds a contractor online. Fierce Island runs all four as one system for home service contractors. AEO and GEO are our specialty. We work nationwide from Boise, Idaho, with one contractor per trade per market.
This page explains each channel in plain words, how they differ, and which one to start with. For the bigger picture, including your Google profile and reviews, see our marketing for home service contractors page.
Jared and Rachelle Nelson run the work. We are a boutique team with no account managers and no outsourcing. Jared has built websites for high-ticket home service businesses since 2017.
AEO, SEO, GEO, and PPC in plain words
Here is the short version. SEO helps you rank in a list of links. AEO helps you get named in a single answer. GEO helps AI tools recommend you across many questions and many engines. PPC is paying to show up when someone searches. Each one has its own page with the details.
SEO: rank where homeowners look first
SEO is search engine optimization. It is the technical, content, and link work that moves you up in Google, mostly for searches with a service and a city in them. Our SEO service page covers how we run it.
AEO: be the answer, not just a result
AEO is answer engine optimization. We write content that answers the questions homeowners ask before they hire, then label the facts so machines can read them. The goal is for ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI to name you. See our AEO service page.
GEO: earn recommendations across AI engines
GEO is generative engine optimization. We test hundreds of queries across ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Claude, and Perplexity to see where you are recommended and where you are not. Then we build the trust signals those engines use, like reviews, mentions, and consistent business facts. Our GEO service page has the details.
PPC: pay to be there right now
PPC is pay-per-click advertising, mainly Google Ads and Local Services Ads for contractors. You pay when someone clicks or sends a lead. Our PPC service page explains how paid search works and how it pairs with the other three.
How the four work together
These channels are not four separate projects. They share the same raw material, so the work stacks up instead of repeating.
- A clear service page helps you rank in Google, gives AI tools something to quote, and works as a landing page for ads.
- Reviews and consistent business facts help you in the map pack and in AI answers.
- Ad data shows which searches turn into calls, and that guides the content we write.
- Rankings you earn do not charge you per click, which takes pressure off the ad budget over time.
Why homeowners use more than one
A homeowner might ask an AI tool for a few names, then search each name on Google to check reviews and photos. If you only show up in one of those places, you lose them at the other. That is why we run the channels together instead of picking one and hoping.
We also report them together. Call and form tracking shows which channel produced real jobs, so budget moves to what works.
The SEO work underneath
Every channel above runs better on a clean site. Two services handle that foundation.
- SEO optimization: we tune the pages you already have, including titles, headings, copy, internal links, and schema, so each page is clear about what it offers and where. We recommend a rebuild only if the site itself is the problem.
- Technical SEO audit and fixes: we crawl your site, find what limits rankings, and fix it instead of handing you a list.
Two ways to buy paid search
Google gives contractors two main paid options. They work differently, and many contractors use both.
- Google Ads management: you pay per click, and you control keywords, ad text, and landing pages. We build the campaigns, a landing page for each one, and call and form tracking.
- Local Services Ads setup: you pay per lead, and you can show the Google Guaranteed badge at the top of search results. These ads are only offered in some trades, so we check whether yours is one.
Which one to start with
The right starting point depends on how fast you need calls and what you have in place. Here is how we think about it.
If you need calls soon
Start with paid search. Ads can put you in front of ready buyers sooner than organic work can. Keep the SEO/AEO work running behind them so you are building something that lasts.
If you want to own your market over time
Start with SEO/AEO and GEO together. They are one engagement, because the work overlaps. If you only want a first look, our AI visibility gap report shows how AI tools see your business today. For a local example, see our SEO services in Boise page.
If your site is the weak spot
Fix the site first. Ads sent to a slow or unclear page waste money, and rankings are harder to earn on a messy site. The technical audit tells us what is in the way.
What it costs and who it fits
SEO/AEO + GEO is $1,500 per month plus a $499 setup. Google Ads management is $650 per month plus a $499 setup, and your ad spend goes directly to Google. Local Services Ads management starts from $120 per month. Every growth service includes a monthly Sonar Analytics report. See the full list on our pricing page.
These services are for home service contractors doing $300K or more a year. We partner with 15 contractors in total, and never two in the same trade whose markets overlap. We do not promise rankings or a set number of leads. We promise to do the work, show you the numbers, and tell you what we would change.
